The Norwegian artists are overwhelmed after day one of Sino-Norwegian Music Week for Youth in Shanghai. -We got a real kick out of today’s school concerts, says an excited Eyolf Dale, member of the Norwegian jazz duo Albatrosh.
This week, from 7 to 13 November, Sino-Norwegian Music Week in Shanghai is held for the third time. Supported by The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Concerts Norway sends three Norwegian bands to China; Baga Bo Pooh, Albatrosh and Nihau Shanghai.
-We give two concerts each day, a total of 14 concerts, Eyolf Dale says. - Today we experienced incredibly devoted pupils, so we really look forward to the upcoming days!.
Part of China’s biggest festival
The Sino-Norwegian Music Week is part of China’s biggest festival, Shanghai International Arts Festival, with a wide, month long range of cultural events. The aim is no less than to present the best within world culture, promote Chinese arts, to enhance Sino-Foreign cultural exchange, and to improve the cultural market.
Wants to expand
After three successful years with Sino-Norwegian Music Week, Concerts Norway now wants to expand the project.
-This project is unique, because it offers concerts especially adapted for young people. It has been so successful that we would like to offer school concerts to the cities of Guangzhou and Beijing as well, says Head of Foreign Section at Concerts Norway, Tom Gravlie.
Eyolf Dale in Albatrosh says the China visit and meeting the devoted children is important for the jazz duo’s work in the time to come: - It’s extremely inspiring, and it feels like these meetings very well might lead to some music making!
