Bukkene Bruse: Spel

MIC’s Listen to Norway series continues with Bukkene Bruse’s 'Spel'.

Bukkene Bruse: Spel (cover)

Folk/traditional quartet Bukkene Bruse have been in existence for more than 15 years, and ‘Spel’ represents a current peak in the ensemble member’s careers. The repertoire on this live recording is predominantly made up of Norwegian traditional tunes given a thorough but still respectful make-over by Bukkene Bruse. The aesthetic and beautiful arrangements pay tribute to tradition but also implement contemporary elements. On many earlier occasions Bukkene Bruse have interpreted these old traditionals, but the ensemble still manage to infuse fresh blood into the veins of the Norwegian folk-music tradition with their spirited interplay and technical skills. Over the years, Annbjørg Lien’s fiddle, Arve Moen Bergset’s vocals, Steinar Ofsdal’s flutes and Bjørn Ole Rasch’s keys have melted together into a unified form of integral expression that is shared by no other ensemble.
