Sidsel Endresen/Bugge Wesseltoft: Out here. In there

MIC’s Listen to Norway profile series continues with the stunning Sidsel Endresen/Bugge Wesseltoft album Out here. In there

Sidsel Endresen & Bugge Wesseltoft: Out Here. In There

“Truth is a relative thing…” Sidsel Endresen’s opening line on this evocative album could be argued over. What’s definitely the truth and not relative is the stunning beauty of Out here. In there. Endresen masters a register of expression that has no equal in other vocalists style of performance. Slightly hoarse and confidently understated lyricism is punctuated by unique vibrato effects that resemble animal sounds. Weaving a canvas of warm synth sounds, mellow ostinatos and distant rhythms is one of Norway’s most distinguished jazz keyboardists – Bugge Wesseltoft. Together, the individual performances are intertwined into a unified, understated and utterly emotional form of expression.
