Warner not to release A-ha live album in UK

Warner UK will not release A-ha’s latest live-album, How Can I Sleep With Your Voice In My Head. According to statements from the band’s management, the main reason to this is that A-ha were unsatisfied with Warner UK’s previous sales efforts.

A-ha have experienced considerable success with their latest release, How Can I Sleep With Your Voice In My Head – a collection of live recordings from the band’s 2001-2002 Lifelines world tour. At present the album rides the Norwegian album charts at no. 4 and has already achieved gold status. Reviews abroad have been equally as positive as the Norwegian ones, and the German market in particular has proved to be susceptible to A-ha’s collection of old and new tunes recorded live.

A-ha is signed to Warner Germany, and this territory is a key market for Norway’s biggest musical export of all time.

In contrast to the healthy German sales, the UK market has been less lucrative for A-ha. In a statement in Norwegian financial daily Dagens Næringsliv, A-ha manager Brian Lane expresses dissatisfaction with Warner UK’s sales and marketing efforts. According to Lane, Warner UK has not been willing to give priority to the Norwegian trio, and consequently sales have been low. Warner Germany has also expressed frustration with their UK colleagues.

A-ha and its management has now chosen not to release How Can I Sleep With Your Voice In My Head on Warner in the UK. As of writing it’s not clear which label will be chosen as an UK partner for A-ha. For the time being How Can I Sleep With Your Voice In My Head is available only on import in the UK.
