Jaga Jazzist goes global.

Ten-piece strong collective Jaga Jazzist is set for global activity after having signed an exclusive deal with one of the world’s leading electronica labels: Ninja Tune.

Jaga Jazzist

Jaga Jazzist is well established on the Norwegian stages, having toured heavily over the last couple of years. Their two albums “A Livingroom Hush” and “The Stix”, released on major Warner, sold both surprisingly well. In an interesting twist, the band eschewed their major label on an international basis and instead released their records abroad on small Norwegian independent label Smalltown Supersound. Smalltown’s Joakim Haugland managed to create international interest, and soon the band was subjected to several suitors willing to sign the Norwegian collective. Their albums received very positive reviews in such publications as The Face Magazine, NME, The Wire, Muzik and their live appearances were equally appreciated.

Says Jaga Jazzist drummer Martin Horntvedt: “Ninja Tune has proved to be a solid and independent label throughout its ten years in business. They’re also among the most successful labels focusing on a fusion of jazz and electronica. We feel that Jaga will fit the Ninja Tune bill perfectly”.

London-based Ninja Tune has been a respected supplier of quality electronica throughout the nineties and into the new millennium. The Ninja roster includes such names as Amon Tobin, Cinematic Orchestra, Antibalas, DJ Food, Herbaliser, Coldcut and Mr. Scruff.

Jaga’s new deal with Ninja Tune covers the whole world, with exemptions for Scandinavia and Japan. Their first album, “A Livingroom Hush” is set for release in November, while “The Stix” will be launched March 2003. In addition to this, Ninja Tune will also release a single and a vinyl 12” in February next year.

CODA Agency – one of Europe’s strongest managements, will look after the Jaga collective’s touring activities.
