Washington head out on Dutch/German/Austrian tour

Tromsø-trio Washington are set to please their growing European audience as they embark on yet another tour of the Continent this week.

Washington 2004

This young Tromsø-based trio are at the forefront of the new wave of bands that are now emerging from one of Norway’s northernmost cities (Tromsø – the new Bergen anyone?). Washington primed the domestic audience with two acclaimed EPs as well as a very strong appearance at the industry convention by:Larm before captivating its audience with 2004’s ‘A New Order Rising’ (Bauta/Tuba) which was received with rave reviews and healthy sales. The album was produced by Lars Lien (the Motorpsycho producer) at the Brygga Studios, Trondheim.

More than one reviewer have compared vocalist and front-man Rune Simonsen to a young Jeff Buckley, and the pedal-steel driven melancholic tunes provide a perfect melancholic backdrop for the stunningly beautiful vocal lines.

Following the success on the domestic stage, Washington was picked up by German label Glitterhouse which has subsequently released the band’s debut album on the European market.

A great show at Popkomm 2004 lead to an immediate booking to Crossroads / Rockpalast Festival in Bonn, Germany at the 8th of March 2005 with a following European tour. The show was broadcasted at WDR Rockpalast in May with an average of 150.000 viewers.

Other 2005 highlights included successful domestic tours as well as a critically acclaimed appearance at the Øya festival in Oslo.

2006 will see the release of Washington’s second album.
