Sturm und Drang: Klezmer! (Famous Jewish Tunes)

MIC's Listen to Norway series continues with Sturm und Drang's 'Klezmer!'

Sturmund Drang

“Sturm und Drang” is a rare band. Made up of professional musicians from the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as renowned jazz and folk musicians, the ensemble specialize in fiery, energetic and exhilarating music such as gypsy, klezmer and Scandinavian folk. As their name reveals, they are out to induce the great oscillations of “a life to the max”, and duly chose songs, as well as compose themselves, in accord with this. On this record it is the Jewish klezmer music that constitutes the genre, with an array of different types of tunes and arrangements, from traditional wedding dances to epitomic Jewish tunes, as well as own compositions. The central trait is the irresistible dynamism and the speed! Kletzmer has received praise from many, hailing the musicianship, the energy and the sweeping, thrilling positivism of the experience.
