Eurovision Young Musicians finals

Talented viola player player Eivind Holtsmark Ringstad reaches Vienna finals of the 2012 Eurovision Young Musicians.

Sunday 6th of May saw the finalists for the 2012 Eurovision Young Musicians being selected in Vienna. Among the seven finalists were the Norwegian viola player Eivind Holtsmark Ringstad (17 years old). This marks the fourth time a student from the Barratt Due Music Institute in Oslo has reached the finale in this prestigious, biannual competition: In 2006 the trumpeter Tine Thing Helseth won second prize, in 2008 the violinist Eldbjørg Hemsing won thrid prize, and in 2010 the violinist Guro Kleven Hagen won second prize.

Says the Norwegian member of this year's jury, the conductor Christian Eggen:
- All seven finalists keep an extremely high level. It is as if they should have been soloists at an international level for 20 years.

The final will take place outside the City Hall of Vienna on the 11th of May. The competition will be transmitted by the European Broadcastion Union companies, and it usually collects an audience of ten of thousands of people at the City Hall square.
