New MIC Norway director appointed

Kristin Danielsen (39) appointed as Music Information Centre Norway’s new director.

Kristin Danielsen (39) is the newly appointed director for the Music Information Centre Norway. On Oct 1st, Danielsen takes over the helm of MIC Norway, following in the footsteps of current director Martin Revheim who steps down this autumn.

Says Danielsen to this week: ‘Being director for MIC Norway is without doubt one of the most inspiring and challenging positions on the Norwegian music scene today. MIC promotes all varieties of genres and styles at home as well as abroad. The music industry is also facing a number of challenges right now – I really thrive when I can focus on some of those challenges.’

Earlier this year Norway’s Minister of Culture, Anniken Huitfeldt, signalled that MIC and Music Export Norway are to be subject to an organisational study that is to assess a possible reorganisation with a future closer integration of the two organisations operations.

Says Danielsen: ‘I’m excited at the thought of focusing on a closer collaboration between the two organisations. I see it as an opportunity - both organizations have been formed with its user base in mind and listening to them will prove vital. The outcome of this process should benefit Norwegian musicians, regardless of any organizational models.’

Danielsen is trained as a dancer at The Norwegian College of Dance in Oslo and Ballet Arts in New York. Following this, she completed a Master in Arts Management at the City University in London. After completing her studies she worked on international cultural exchange projects at the UK’s Visiting Arts.

Danielsen relocated to Oslo in 1999 and took a position as managing director of the Black Box Theatre. 2002 saw her establishing and running the Danielsen Kroepelien Arts Management.

From 2006 to 2010, Danielsen served as the director of Ny Musikk - the Norwegian section of ISCM. After her stint at Ny Musikk, Danielsen held a position as Head of Sales at Oslo’s Det Norske Teatret (‘The Norwegian Theatre’). In addition to this, Danielsen teaches classes in creative project management, leadership in the cultural sector, performing arts industry training and audience development at the BI Norwegian Business School and the University of Tromsø.

Says the Chairman of Music Information Centre Norway’s board, Svein Skarheim: ’Danielsen possesses an impressive professional background and a positive energy that perfectly matches the challenges of leading MIC. I am elated that we have managed to recruit such a highly qualified candidate for such a vital position, a position that is of such importance for the entire Norwegian music scene.’
