MIC's Listen to Norway series continues with Stavanger Symphony Orchestra's 8 CD series of Geirr Tveitts orchestral works
This monumental 8 CD series by the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra represents the most thorough documentation of distinguished composer Geirr Tveitt’s (1908-81) output to date. Key Tveitt works such as 100 Folk-tunes from Hardanger, Prillar – Sun God Symphony, Concertos for Hardanger Fiddle, Nykken, Wedding Suite, Troll Tunes, Piano Concertos Nos. 1,4 & 5, Variations on a Folk-song from Hardanger, Baldur’s Dreams, Telemarkin and The Turtle are all represented in this stunning CD series. Led by Ole Kristian Ruud, the SSO plays the music of Tveitt magnificently throughout the 8 recordings, maintaining a sustained level of performance that’s utterly breathtaking. One can only marvel at the effort put into the process by the orchestra, the conductor and soloists such as Arve Moen Bergset, Håkon Austbø and Ingebjørg Kosmo. Terrific!
