Ragnhild Hemsing and Hallgrim Hansegård – Live At The Office

Traditional folk tunes meets contemporary music and cutting edge dance as violinist Ragnhild Hemsing and dancer Hallgrim Hansegård bring their winning formula to their Live At The Office performance.

Fusing contemporary classical music with folk traditions and cutting-edge dance, violinist Ragnhild Hemsing and dancer Hallgrim Hansegård put down a stunning performance at their Live At The Office concert at The Norwegian Meteorological Institute HQ earlier this autumn.

The two performers put on a breathtaking display of acrobatic dance styles and impeccable solo violin playing, performing a set that ranged from such traditional tunes as Lyarlått fra Valdres, Halling på låg bass and Excerpts from Bjarne Brustad’s Fairytale Suite. The closing number was chosen with great care, given the location of the Live At The Office concert held at the Norwegian Meteorological Institute; the Norwegian title of Lasse Thoresen’s key work ‘Yr’ translates as drizzle.

Ragnhild Hemsing comes from a musical background in Norway that includes both traditional Norwegian music and classical training. From the age of five she has played the violin as well as the traditional Hardanger fiddle. The two expressions are completely different, but keeping a foot in both traditions has been very fruitful: her technique and musicality has clearly benefited greatly from it.

Charismatic and extrovert dance innovator Hallgrim Hansegård has as front-man of dance troupe Frikar managed to revitalize the image of Norwegian folk dance in the minds of the general public through an athletic and youthful approach to the traditional dance forms. Unquestionably, the Frikar crew is best known to the wider public for their acrobatic displays performed to accompany Eurovision Song Contest winner Alexander Rybak and his mammoth hit Fairytale. In addition to this high-profile exposure, the Frikar Dance Company has also performed with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra and The National Ballets of Norway and Zimbabwe.
