The upcoming NOTCH festival in China fuses the best of cutting edge Nordic audiovisual culture with China’s emerging cross-art scene.
Early October marks the start of the NOTCH Festival which fuses cutting edge Nordic audiovisual culture with China’s emerging local scene, triggering the experiment of “contemporizing the future” or “de-futurization”. The title of NOTCH 08 is “Comma Coma”, i.e. “non-stop coma”, reflecting the overwhelming state in a year of natural disasters, stock market crisis and price increases of oil and food. How will we cope with it? Many people have no idea. NOTCH 08 presents the vision that we should start reducing our consumption to lessen the burden to the earth.
30 artists with different expressions are selected as “prophets” of NOTCH’s philosophy, and they will play in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong. The music spans across Free Jazz, Improvisation, Electro-acoustic, Psychedelic Folk, Sound Art, Avant-progressive Rock, Indie Pop and Ambient/Minimal Techno.
