99 Minutes #12 – Jazz festival edition
The recent spell of warm weather has put a nation in festival mode, we celebrate the upcoming jazz festival season with a brand new ’99 Minutes’ webcast and a ‘Listen to Norway’ printed mag entirely devoted to Norway’s strong jazz scene and vibrant festival circuit.

For 2011, MIC Norway has chosen to focus on Norwegian jazz through a number of projects and initiatives. Earlier this spring, the institution published a ‘Listen to Norway’ printed magazine, focusing on Norwegian jazz festivals and the Norwegian acts featured at these. To coincide with the launch of the magazine, which features interviews and profiles on a number of the nation’s top tier jazz performers, DJ99/Guttorm Andreasen has now created a ‘99 Minutes’ webcast entirely devoted to Norway’s strong jazz scene and the country’s many vibrant jazz festivals.
In addition to a strong playlist that includes artists Arild Andersen, Knut Reiersrud, Paal Nilssen-Love, Scorch Trio, Eple Trio, Bugge Wesseltoft, Motif, Stian Westerhus, In the Country, Supersilent, Nils Petter Molvær, Eivind Aarset & The Sonic Codex Orchestra, Stian Carstensen & Jimmy Rosenberg and Jenny Hval, 99 Minutes #12’s main feature is an exclusive interview with saxophonist Håkon Kornstad. In addition to the not-to-be-missed interview, in which the celebrated saxophonist touches on his newfound fascination for opera singing, the webcast also features two unreleased Håkon Kornstad tracks from his upcoming solo album that have not been available to jazz enthusiasts before.
DJ 99 hooked up with Håkon Kornstad in a Oslo in full summer mode, talking about his upcoming new album, tour plans, his appearances at Norway’s jazz festivals this summer, his successful children’s concerts, his ties to NYC and, most notably, a surprising announcement from the saxophonist that will have far-reaching consequences for his career in the coming years....
Says Kornstad, ever the diplomat, on the state of Norwegian jazz festivals: ‘I like all of them in a way because they’re so diverse and represent so different places of the country.’

DJ 99, aka Guttorm Andreasen, has worked as a presenter, DJ, reporter and producer at the national Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation for 16 years, from 1992 to 2008 during which he hosted a wide range of programmes ranging from popular children’s shows, cutting-edge music programmes at the youth channels as well as culture and arts programmes on national TV. From 2003 to 2006 he produced 702 editions of the multi-rhythmic daily programme Wasabi on the NRK P2 channel. Up to 200,000 people would tune in daily on the complete genre-free blend of Swedish funk, Jamaican tango, Belarusian electro, Nigerian jazz, Venezuelan rock, Danish cumbia, Norwegian and Chinese jungle techno ... and virtually every imaginable genre in between! DJ 99 has performed in a wide range of settings ranging from the Sónar Festival in Barcelona to a small bar on the edge of a Serbian village. In 2007 he was one of only three selected DJs to play at the major music industry WOMEX festival in Seville. In 2005 he reached the finals of the International World Beat DJ Competition in London.
