An afternoon event organized by Music Export Norway and Music Export Denmark (In conjunction with the royal Norwegian Embassy and the Norwegian and Danish Consulate General in New York), this seminar is designed to bring together Nordic and American music industry professionals. Some of the most exciting new music is coming out of Scandinavia, and this seminar will give participants the opportunity to learn about what is new as well as to meet with some of the most influential tastemakers on either side of the Atlantic.
The moderator of the day is Brandon Stosuy, a contributing writer and columnist for Pitchfork. Brandon curates the Believer’s 2007 Music Issues CD compilation and covers art, literature and music for publications such as SPIN and the Village Voice, U Is Up, But So Is Up, his anthology of Downtown New York literature has just been published by NYU Press.
The seminar will feature Key Note speaker Seymour Stein (CEO and co-founder of Sire Records). A Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Mr. Stein is responsible for the launching of some of the music industry’s best known acts , including the Ramones, the Talking Heads, The Pretenders and Madonna, to name a few. Seymour Stein will be interviewed by the well-known and respected journalist, Jim Bessman. Bessman has appeared in scores of trade and consumer publications including Billboard (for which he has been a regular contributor to for over 20 years). Author of Ramones – An American Band, Mr. Bessman has served on the Recording Academy’s New York Board of Governors and the Nominating Committees of both the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
One of rock’s most respected journalists, David Fricke (Senior Editor, Rolling Stone) will share his perspective on Nordic music. Fricke is known for his penetrating features on stars such as Patti Smith, Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love, Pink Floyd and the Red Hot Chili Peppers plus many more.
CEO and Partner Allen Kovac of 10th Street Entertainment is a major player in the world of music management. 10th Street represents such acts as Blondie, Hanson, and Mötley Crüe, and one of the company’s newest signings is Norwegian artist Marion Raven, former member of M2M.
Zync Music founder Sanne Hagelsten is a Dane who is well on her way to conquering the competitive world of U.S synchronization licensing. Zync has placed music for such clients as Nike, 20th Century Fox, Absolut Vodka and Jaguar.
An indie with and attitude, Vice Records is represented by General Manager and Head of A&R Adam Shore, who has been with the company since the beginning, Vice has brought bands such as Bloc Party, The Streets and Norwegian cact 120 Days to American ears.
The seminar will begin with a lunch buffet featuring Scandinavian cuisine, and will be followed by a cocktail hour from 4:30-6:00 p.m.
